Lojong 15: Do Good, Avoid Evil, Appreciate Your Lunacy, Pray For Help

Welcome to our 15th month of sitting together (in spirit if not always in person). We will be closed tomorrow so that we may take in Alpine High School One Act Play’s performance of The White Room Of My Remembering. The play will take place at the AISD Auditorium Wednesday at 6:00 pm. Please join us (we’ve got two kids involved).

Our 15th Lojong slogan is a mouthful: Do good, avoid evil, appreciate your lunacy, pray for help.

I’ve recently begun reading the book The Intelligent Heart: A Guide to the Compassionate Life by Dzigar Kongtrul, and I’ve found it to be a very nice compliment to Norman Fischer’s Training In Compassion: Zen Teachings on the Practice of Lojong.

This slogan packs a punch, and it has in the past proved very helpful in my practice. If you’d like to learn more about what to do with this slogan, I’d highly recommend reading up on Fischer’s and Kongtrul’s takes here and here, and then posting this slogan about your world, coming back to it frequently.

I look forward to sitting with you next Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
